About Loudoun Policy Watch

What this site is

Loudoun Policy Watch is an independent, student-run project that tracks what Loudoun County's government is deciding and explains it in plain language. It covers the Board of Supervisors, the School Board and the Planning Commission, with a few related state and town actions that directly affect Loudoun students.

Local government makes decisions that shape students' daily lives, from phone rules at school to where data centers and power lines go, but the records are spread across hundreds of pages of agendas, staff reports and meeting videos. This site puts them in one place.

How decisions are chosen

The tracker focuses on decisions from 2023 onward that affect large numbers of residents or that students are likely to notice: data centers and energy, zoning and housing, schools, transportation, the budget, parks and the environment, and community services. Each entry records the deciding body, the date, the vote when it is on record, the current status and a link to the source.

Nonpartisan standards

  • Every fact links to an official record or a named news source, and county records are preferred.
  • Each brief presents the strongest version of each side's argument, in terms its supporters would recognize.
  • The site does not endorse candidates, parties or positions.
  • Vote counts are listed only when a source states them. Otherwise the tracker says "Not confirmed" rather than guessing.

Corrections

Accuracy matters more than speed. To report an error, use the contact address below. When an error is found, it is fixed on the affected page and a note at the bottom records what changed and when. Entries marked "Confirm" in the tracker have a date or vote taken from news coverage and are being checked against official meeting minutes.
